What is a Quint in Mahjong?
A Quint is a group of five identical tiles. Since there are only four copies of each natural tile, every Quint must include at least one Joker. Quints exist only in American Mahjong.
A Quint is a group of five identical tiles. This group type exists only in American Mahjong. Since a standard set contains exactly four copies of each natural tile, five matching naturals is impossible, so every Quint includes at least one Joker. The NMJL card has a dedicated Quints section with hands built around these five-of-a-kind groups. These hands carry higher point values because they're harder to finish. Quints are high-risk, high-reward play where you have to spend limited Jokers to complete the group.
