Draw Phase

The first action of each turn: drawing one tile from the wall. The draw phase begins your turn and gives you a new tile to incorporate into your hand or discard.

How the Draw Phase Works

Each turn in American Mahjong begins with the draw phase. The active player takes the next available tile from the top of the wall and adds it to their hand. This is a straightforward action, but it is the engine that drives the game forward.

Key rules of the draw phase:

The draw phase is when luck intersects with strategy. You cannot control what tile you draw, but you can control what you do with it. Every drawn tile either advances your hand, gives you a useful exchange opportunity, or becomes your discard.
