Wall Game

A game that ends with no winner because all tiles from the wall have been drawn and discarded without anyone declaring Mah Jongg. No points are exchanged in a wall game.

What Is a Wall Game?

A wall game occurs when all tiles in the wall have been drawn and no player has completed a winning hand. When the last tile is drawn and discarded without a Mah Jongg declaration, the game ends as a draw.

In a wall game, no points or money change hands. The dealer position rotates as normal, and a new game begins.

How Often Do Wall Games Happen?

Wall games are relatively uncommon but not rare. They tend to happen more often when:

• Players are playing defensively and holding back dangerous tiles
• Multiple players are going for concealed hands (fewer exposures means less information and slower play)
• Key tiles are buried deep in the wall
• The NMJL card for the year has particularly difficult hand patterns
